Therapeutic Yoga for Backcare - 6-week series
The back is such an important part of our anatomy, and it is often taken for granted until something goes wrong with it. We then realize how much it is involved in so many of our daily movements: the simple act of opening a car door or the fridge can send us into spasms of pain. When we suffer from back pain, our tendency may be to lie or sit still, and not move around much; this only locks the back further, and the time for recovery will take longer. Moving the body is essential for a healthy back.
This therapeutic yoga series is designed to address back discomfort related to conditions such as generalized low back pain, sacroiliac joint issues, sciatica, extension faults, and osteoporosis. It can also be used as a preventative practice for those who occasionally experience back pain.
Using the Ajna Yoga Model for Backcare, we will focus on:
Some of these practices will be done as a group, and there may be times for individual practice of specific poses related to your back issue, depending on the class participants' needs.
As a bonus, all classes of this series will be pre-recorded so if you miss a class, you won't miss a thing! Everyone will receive the class recordings which will allow you to continue your practice at home in-between classes. You will have access to the recordings until the end of November. If you find that the “in person” class time does not work for you, simply register using the “virtual series” option and you will receive all the class recordings.
To register for this series, please inform Daniele of any formal diagnosis you may have received from a licensed medical practitioner, physiotherapist, or chiropractor. Please bring to class a yoga mat and a couple of balls that you can use to massage your body (any type of rubber or plastic ball will do, including tennis balls). All other props will be provided.

- Cultivating relaxation and stress relief.

Gentle Yoga Explorations for What Matters! 5-week series
My guru, Amrit Desai, often says that life is a perpetual state of irritation causing us to react constantly to what is showing up… If you think about this for a moment, you may recognize that your mind is pretty much always commenting on what’s going on, judging this, judging that, thinking “this shouldn’t be that way”, “I love this”, “I really don’t like that”, and of course, various emotions arise as a result of this. It can get quite exhausting, at times, right?
Yoga is a practice that helps us break the cycle of our conditioned reactions, and it brings us back to our true essence, the part of us that lives in the present, that is peaceful, balanced, patient, and loving… This is the part of us that is aware of what truly matters! When we embrace the essence of our being and its various qualities, our life becomes much more manageable, and we experience greater peace, well-being, and happiness.
In this gentle yoga series, we will reflect on these attributes and explore how to consciously bring them into our life, on and off the mat. Our practice will include wisdom teachings, breathing techniques, yoga postures, and short guided meditations to assist us in embracing other aspects of our mind and being. Embracing what truly matters is the key to living a more fulfilling life!
As a bonus, all classes of this series have been pre-recorded, so if you miss a class, you won’t miss a thing! Everyone will receive the class recordings along with some reflection questions to ponder about in-between classes. You will have access to the recordings until the end of November. If you find that the “in person” class time does not work for you, simply register using the “virtual series” option and you will receive all the class recordings!

Balance and Fall Prevention
Maintaining our balance, whether on one or two legs, is one of those things that becomes more challenging as we age. Young people are not immune to this issue as I’ve discovered in my 10+ years as a yoga teacher. Falling can happen unexpectedly at any time, no matter what season is present.
Did you know that it is possible to prevent a fall by proactively learning to use your body in specific ways? And if you realize that you’re in the process of falling, there are ways to come out of a fall safely when on the ground.
In this series, we will learn about 5 principles that can assist us in preventing a fall or in returning to a state of balance after a fall, and these will be explored in the context of various stretches, repetitive movements, yoga postures, and flowing practices. We will also focus on building our ability to balance in actual balance poses, so if balance has been an issue for you during yoga classes, you will have an opportunity to "strengthen your balance muscle”!
This series is currently offered virtually on Zoom. Each week after the class, all registered participants will receive access to class recordings and handouts in the Heart Journey online portal. If you miss a class or are not available at the scheduled class time and only wish to receive the recordings, you can enjoy your practice in your own time and receive all the benefit of this series. You can join at any time!
