Hae Kwang Sunim started training at the age of 18 in Thailand. He has taken full seminary and in temple training, with graduated ordinations (including Bhikkhu ordination) under Patriarch Kun Sunim in South Korea. He spent over 25 years distilling the deepest and hardest to grasp teachings into a simplified language so it can be taught and effectively applied directly in daily life. In 2005, the 19th Headquarters in Korea appointed Venerable Hae Kwang as Director of Bo Kwang Zen Center Palm Springs, U.S.A. In 2013, the Western Bhikkhus Council nominated Hae Kwang Sunim 교구장 Kyo Goo Jahng of all American-European Temples (closest english translation: North American-European Oversight Head / Bishop / Director).
Hae Kwang Sunim drew from the most effective mind-body teachings he acquired from studying under different teachers in the East, including the teachings of Wat Bua Luang in Thailand. The methodology is based on the ancient Eastern principles of Hai Palung (Energy Healing), Pon Klie Kwan Sow (Emotional Release), Meditation, Food Based Healing and the importance of compassion, gratitude, oneness, outreach and the need to support the whole person holistically - body, mind and spirit.

October Workshop with Suniti
Journey Into the Waves: Emotional Freedom, Creativity, and Soul Retrieval
This month’s workshop will connect us to the water element and its energy center, the sacral chakra.
Inspired by Erikson’s developmental stage associated with that energy center, “industry vs. inferiority” (ages of 6 and 12), we will translate his teachings into shamanic terminology: creativity vs. sacrifice.
According to Susan J. Wright: Creativity is industry infused with the possibility of spiritual expansiveness; it allows for learning and expression beyond the often stifling status quo of our culture. Sacrifice, in the form of abandoning parts of ourselves that we think will be, or are being, judged unacceptable, is a dynamic that ultimately creates a sense of inferiority.
In this workshop, we will embrace the water element within our body, and use that connection to invite a sense of emotional freedom that fosters openness, healing, and a return to balance. This will serve as a platform to dive into creative self-expression, and to then retrieve a lost part of ourselves that is ready to return back to us.
Highlights of this workshop will include:
Various guided processes to help us balance our emotional body so that we may experience greater freedom and flow with life more easily. This will include guided meditation, visualization, movement, and breathing techniques.
The practice of a zen artistic technique to help us open up to the creative process and to the higher wisdom that lives within us, including the practice of a form of shamanic divination. You will be very surprised at how easy it is to do so - No artistic talent or skills required!
We will then be ready to do a guided shamanic journey to retrieve a part of ourselves that is ready to return and bring greater empowerment.
Please wear comfortable clothes as we will move our body at times. Bring a journal to write in.
This event will take place on: Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, 7:30-9:30pm, $20 cash if paying at the door (includes hst) Please RSVP your attendance by Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the latest via email or text at: email@example.com or text 416-994-7367.
